There are more and more low cost funeral options popping up in Toronto these days guaranteeing the lowest for cremation in Toronto. But where does it end and is the cheapest funeral option always the best?
Toronto Cremation
These day’s people have become much more price conscious and cremations in Toronto are not viewed as a necessary high cost expense the way they used to be. There are many more cremation services in Toronto than before and many people want the lowest cost cremation service. This comes in the form of a direct cremation or direct burial. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that the least expensive option is always the best.
20 years ago you went into a funeral home in Toronto to arrange a cremation and you chose a casket and urn. Attached to that casket price was also all of the other services you would be receiving. If you picked a more expensive casket you would receive more visitation time, a limousine and catered reception and a host of other services. In contrast, if you purchased a lower end casket because you just wanted a cremation, you would receive lower end services. Perhaps only an hour of visitation prior to a small service, you’d drive yourself to the cemetery, and there would be no reception for family and friends. So basically the services you received would be directly correlated to money you were willing to put out for a casket. And since everyone in those days had the same services, there were only varying degrees of the same thing.
Some funeral homes will offer direct cremation in Toronto at what seems like an unbeatable price but you do get what you pay for. In order to keep costs low many establishments have very little staff making them hard to get a hold of for issues that can arise after the services are complete. This can lead to problems with getting more death certificates, assistance with the cancellation of cards, applications for death and survivor benefits. In addition, you want to make sure that your loved one’s cremation is being respectfully tended to by licensed funeral directors and not someone that does not have the proper training.
I will be the first to stand up and say that cremations are way overpriced by most funeral homes but there is a point where quality becomes questionable and there is a fair price that should be paid for a cremation. Try and find a company with fair prices, licensed funeral directors and the professionalism and accessibility required to properly execute the services your needs.
